Bryce Ewing

Bryce Ewing, age 85, of Gotham died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Golden Living in Muscoda. Bryce was born on July 9, 1928 in Boaz, WI the son of Vere & Lola Grace (Lyman) Ewing. He married Shirley Larson on May 30, 1954 in Windom, Minnesota. Bryce was honored to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was known as "Kingfisher", building custom fishing rods, and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed storytelling, bowling, softball, and supporting the Ithaca School fundraisers. He worked many years as a salesman in the agricultural field. Bryce founded Land of the Eagles mission and operated it for several of his retirement years. It was his way of giving "back". In this mission he and several other locals delivered thousands of items to Indian reservations in South Dakota and in northern Wisconsin. Anything from cheese, winter boots, jackets, blankets, fishing rods and reels, furniture and an open mind to be welcomed on reservations earning trust and creating lasting friendships. Lands' End and Lacrosse Boots as well as many other companies, local churches and individuals donated thousands of dollars' worth of items that he and his friends distributed. The mission was his dream and passion fulfilled in his retirement years. Building custom fishing rods was another dream fulfilled in his later work years on into retirement. He was glad to custom craft any rod for any person and later trained others to continue his efforts. A lot was said with his handshake. He enjoyed meeting people and hearing their story. Don (Ginnie) Larson of California; sisters-in-law Joanne (Rollie) Roesner of Windom, Minnesota, Peggy (Arlin) Mattison of Jackson, Minnesota, Barb Larson of Windom, Minnesota; special friends Bill and Molly Weston; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Luetta Larson; brothers-in-law Max Larson, Robert Reed, and Gerald Larson. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center with Pastor Ed Jones Officiating. The Local Military Honors will provide military graveside rites at the Button Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and also on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM.
