Della "Jean" Gibbs

“Jean” (Mathews) Gibbs, age 90, died on Saturday, February 25, 2017 in Ozark, MO. Jean was born on February 3, 1927 in Richland Center, WI to Rev. Lester and Agnes (Janney) Mathews. Jean graduated from Richland Center High School in 1945. She married Lester Gibbs of Beloit, WI on December 27, 1945 in Richland Center. Together they had four children: Judith (deceased), Ronald, Phyllis, Michael. Jean and Lester lived in Beloit, WI and then Madison for many years where Jean worked for the school system lunch program and Ohio Medical/Ohmeda. After retirement, they lived in Muscoda and later moved to Missouri to be closer to their children. Jean was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed family life and taking care of everyone. She loved to tell stories of her life and the lives and events of family and friends. She was always prepared with a cup of coffee or something to eat if you came through her door. Survivors include 3 children, Ronald Gibbs of Ozark, MO, Phyllis (Patrick) Stewart of Nixa, MO, Michael (Joye) Gibbs of Dodgeville, WI; 7 grandchildren, Stacy (Dean) Jenks of Ozark, MO, Bryann (Andy) McGuire of Avoca, WI, Ryan Gibbs of Blue River, WI, Daniel Stewart of St. Louis, MO, Kathleen (Daniel) Fawcett of Leeds, England, Justin (Lydia) Davis of Marshfield, MO, Jennifer Davis of Dodgeville, WI; 9 great grandchildren, Michaela, Chaise, and Wyatt McGuire, Faith Jenks, Colin Gibbs, Jacin, Zane and Willow Davis, Cash Bright; 4 sisters, Betty Gibbs of Beloit, WI, Marion Stout of S. Beloit, IL, Margaret (Carroll) Banker of Richland Center, WI, Marlene Mathews of Richland Center, WI; a sister-in-law, Manerva Mathews of LaCrosse, WI; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Agnes Mathews; husband, Lester Gibbs; daughter, Judith; 2 brothers, Robert and Francis “Tom” Mathews. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center. Burial will be held in the Richland Center Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Jean was dearly loved and will be remembered fondly by many.
