Eleanor Louise Lane

Obit for: Eleanor Louise (Boomhower) Lane Even though afraid of flying, Eleanor (Boomhower) Lane, age 99, took flight with her angels at 12:50am on September 22, 2023. She spent her last day with her daughters at Schmitt Woodland Hills in Richland Center, WI. Eleanor was born on December 29, 1923, in Boston, MA, and she was the eighth child born into a family of 10. She spent her youth in Boston where she experienced the hardships of the depression and the sacrifices associated with WWII. She became an asset for the war effort as a skilled riveter working on both ships and aircraft in the Boston Naval Shipyard and surrounding air bases, for which her family often referred to her as their “Rosie the Riveter”. Shortly after the end of WWII Eleanor met and married Clarence (Bud) Lane, a Navy seaman restationed in Boston from his Pearl Harbor/Pacific service, and gave birth to their first daughter, Patricia (Pat). Six years later the new family moved to Bud’s boyhood home in Kansas, where their second daughter, Joanne, was born. Following a few years in Kansas, Eleanor and her family moved to Houston, Texas where they resided for many more happy years. Eleanor was a dedicated homemaker, very involved with her church and as a Girl Scouts leader and volunteer at her daughters’ schools. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles, cooking and taking long drives. After Eleanor and Bud parted ways, she continued to enjoy the sunny Florida environment before opting to live near her daughters. This further expanded her cultural experiences from Massachusetts, Kansas, Texas, and Florida to also include Georgia, Michigan, and Colorado before coming to Richland Center, Wisconsin in 2015. Eleanor is survived by: Daughters: Patricia (Pat) Leonard of Richland Center; Joanne and Son-in-Law, Bruce Taylor of Muscoda, WI; former husband, Bud Lane of Melbourne, FL; Grandson, Joshua Taylor of Manchester, U.K., Granddaughters: Michelle Sova of Ennis, MT; Kirsten Saggau of WI; Great Grandchildren: Evelyn and Adam of Manchester, U.K; Baylee Synder of Ennis, MT; Corey Jean and Taylor Sova of MI; and Will Beaudoin of Elm Grove, WI. Eleanor was predeceased by parents Frederick and Donalda Antoinette Boomhower of MA; sisters, Adeliade, Dorothea, and Virginia and brothers, Frederick Jr., Edward, George, Raymond, and Kenneth, of the New England area. Eleanor spent her last three years at Schmitt Woodland Hills and was a favorite resident among the fantastic staff there. We thank everyone at Schmitt for all their excellent care and loving support. A small ceremony celebrating her life will be held at Schmitt Woodland Hills on October 6, at 12:30pm-3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations for taking her ashes to where she wanted to lay to rest at her favorite place in Michigan, would be appreciated. .
