Jeanne M. Nigl

Jeanne M. Nigl, age 83, of Richland Center passed away at her daughter’s home in Baraboo on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Jeanne was born on September 1, 1939 in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Thomas and Helen (Cheesmond) Katalenich. She attended Okemos High School, then pursued her love of teaching at Michigan State University where she met the love of her life. Jeanne and Rudy married in 1959 in East Lansing, MI. They resided in Oshkosh, WI for a year, then Washington State for 2 years before purchasing their Richland County farm to raise their 5 children. Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, following all their sports, activities and special events. Her love of children and teaching lead her to touch the lives of countless children in the Richland School District as a teaching assistant, Religious Education teacher and 4-H leader. Summer days, Jeanne spent endless hours creating beautiful flower gardens, but made time to hold a week-long Grandma Camp for all her grandchildren. She was a founding member of the Richland Garden Club and active parishioner of St. Mary’s PCCW, parish council, St. Vincent de Paul Society and countless other parish activities. Survivors include: 4 children, Rudy (Cherie) Nigl of Stoddard, WI, Jeff (Pamela) Nigl of Richland Center, WI, Teresa (Patrick) Kash of Baraboo, WI, Patrick (Lora) Nigl of Beavercreek, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Nigl of Richland Center, WI; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Theresa) Katalenich of Plattsmouth, NE; a sister, Nancy Cady of Grand Ledge, MI; special daughter, Ledys (Derek) Updike; 3 special grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rudy Nigl; son, Michael Nigl; grandson, Nicholas Nigl; and a sister, Sharon Saxon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Gymnasium with Msgr. Roger J. Scheckel officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Richland Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home where a Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at St. Mary’s gymnasium at 11:00 AM.
