Avis was born on October, 6, 1936, the daughter of Lester Fruit and Myrtle Haines Fruit. Avis married Allen Unbehaun on December 29, 1954, at the Ash Creek EUB church. Avis and Allen farmed their entire life in the Town of Richland. Avis received the Outstanding Farm Woman award several years ago. Avis was a member of the Ash Creek United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She and her sister, Emmogene Emerson, along with children of the church, put on monthly programs for the people at Pine Valley Manor during the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. Music was important to her. She loved to sing and played the piano beautifully. Her family was most important to her. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. Avis was a very special individual, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Avis is survived by her husband, Allen; 4 children, Susanne (Rick) Twedt of Decorah, Iowa, James (Joleen) Unbehaun of Richland Center, Lori (Rick) Burras of Decorah, Iowa and David (Cathy) Unbehaun of Richland Center; 12 grandchildren, Joshua (Sonja) Twedt, Kari (Kyle) Nelson, Sarah (Jonathan) Carlson, Gabriel Twedt, Danielle (Anna) Burras, Ryan (Elizabeth) Burras, Rachel (Darrek) Elwood, Lucas (Nicole) Unbehaun, Megan (Michael) Braden, Heidi Unbehaun, Victoria Unbehaun and Allison Unbehaun; 17 great-grandchildren, Morgan and Emma Twedt, Carter, Cayden and Macey Nelson, Kennedy, Knute and Keaton Carlson, Henrietta Burras, Eleanor, Raegan and Caroline Burras, Ava Elwood, Cooper and Mason Unbehaun, Harper and Nora Grace Braden; two brothers, Clinton (Vergene) Fruit of Dodgeville and Gordon Fruit of Richland Center; two sisters, Carol (Charles) Dieter of Beloit and Sandra (Randy) Scott of Sun Prairie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Avis was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Garland (Laura) Fruit and Madison Hubert Fruit; three sisters, Marilyn (Ernest) Williams, Wyvonne (Merlyn) Merry and Emmogene (Harold) Emerson. A celebration of Avis's life will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11 AM at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Tammy Clauson officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 10th, from 3 until 6 PM and on the day of the service from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at 11. The family wishes to thank the staff at Pine Valley Community Village for the wonderful, professional and compassionate care they provided for our loved one over the past two years.
