Marvelene Lillian Grassman, 94, of Pine Valley Assisted Living, Richland Center, WI passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021. A lifetime resident of Richland County, she was born on January 30, 1927, to Lisle and Freda McNamar of Little Willow. She married her high school sweetheart, Louis (Louie) J Grassman, on April 20th, 1946, in Ithaca with the reception at the town hall where they served crackers and ice cream. She attended County Normal in Richland Center and went on to teach at grade school at several one room school house. She and Louie also took over his parent’s farm - first the smaller ridge farm where they started dairying with 15 Brown Swiss and a homemade wheelbarrow. They later took over the main farm, switched to Holsteins, drained the bottom and eventually had 535 acres. Marvelene and Louie worked the farm side by side — in the summer she’d chop hay and he’d take the wagons down the hills to unload into the silos. She was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Richland County Homemakers, and in 2005, she was named Outstanding Farm Woman of Richland County. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis Grassman, her parent-in-laws John and Inga Grassman, her brother-in-law and sister Dorothy and Francis German and nephew, Steven German. She is survived her three daughters, Jean Grassman (Daniel Robie), Sue Grassman (Kevin Fargen), Amy Grassman; three grandchildren Mallory Winchel (Brad), Brittney Brent (Joe) and Amber Halverson (John) and their children Mason, Micah, and Tinley; nieces Kay Wuthier (Denny) and Nancy Romero (Leo); and many friends and family. A celebration of Marvelene’s life will be held at Noon on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center. Visitation will be held at Clary Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, from 10:00 AM until the time of service. She and Louis will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Cemetery off of Highway 154 in Willow Township.
