She was born August 5, 1915, to George and Lolo Smith James of Richland Center, WI. November 25, 1937, she married Paul Comar, a dairy and beef farmer of Richland County. Venna graduated Richland Center high school in 1933, Richland County Teachers College in 1934 and with a B.S. in Elementary Education from Platteville in 1972. She taught rural Richland County schools for 25 years, as an in home teacher for 8 years, and then 10 years of Special Ed in Richland Center. She joined the Presbyterian Church in 1928 where she became an elder, a deacon, and a member of Circle. She was a 4-H leader for 10 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, and projects of all kinds. She was always lending a helping hand to those who sought her help or advice. Venna and husband, Paul, never turned away a stray animal or child. The number of and some of the names have been lost of the county’s foster children who passed through their door.
