Sperry, 83, of Boscobel, WI, passed away on April 6th, 2024 unexpectedly at Boscobel Hospital surrounded by family. Leonard was born on July 6th, 1940 to Golda (Stocks) and Jerome Sperry in Madison, WI. After graduating from Madison Central High School in 1958, he went on to join the US Navy where he served for 20 years. Leonard was not only passionate about his work at the US Navy, but also at Neundorf and ANR Freight where he worked for 30 years. They will never forget when Leonard followed through on his promise to park his semi-truck “Emily” nose first into the loading dock on his final day. Leonard married the love of his life, Sharon (Powers) Sperry and raised four children together. Leonard and Sharon enjoyed traveling together, spending time with family, and gardening. After almost 65 years together, they were truly each other's soulmates. Leonard and Sharon couldn’t wait to start a family and together they raised four wonderful children. Leonard was very proud of his children and all of their accomplishments—they meant the world to him. Randy (Leslie) Sperry of Spring Green, Gary (Mary) Sperry of Medford, Michael (Sheila) Sperry of Blue River, and Joy (Paul) Cream of Adelaide, Australia. Leonard’s favorite role was being a grandfather and great-grandfather to Christina Lutz, Carrie Hardy, Jessica Sperry, Matthew (Ashley) Sperry, Ethan Merwin, Alex Sperry, Whitney (Michael) Baker, Amanda Sperry, Brandon Sperry, Cody (Nicole) Sperry, Dylan Lutz, Rebecca Lutz, Jason Kvamme, Brody Hardy, Ahlaya Merwin, Meelah Merwin, Kylah Merwin, Parker Sperry, and Paislee Sperry. Leonard was the third oldest of his twelve siblings. Although they no longer live close together, when they got together it was as if no time had passed. His siblings were Thomas (Patty) Sperry, Mary (Roy) Watts, Gena Stine, Marge Edwards, Paul (Mary) Sperry, David (Barbara) Sperry, Sherry (Harold) Rupp, Connie (George) Hill, Bill Sperry, Patricia (Robert) Kuzik, and Steve (Jung) Sperry. Leonard will always be remembered for his selfless nature which earned him several awards from the Navy and admiration from all those around him. The Wisconsin Sailor of the Quarter in 1997 and a Naval Accommodation in the late ’80s for rescuing Marines in a training accident Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Golda (Stocks) Sperry, his sisters Patricia (Sperry) Kuzik and Mary (Sperry) Watts, father-in-law Ralph Powers, mother-in-law Bonnie (Standish) Powers, sister-in-law Beverly (Powers) Grove and brother-in-law Bill Grove. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center between 9:30 AM -11 AM. Funeral Service will be at 11 AM with lunch to follow at Clary Memorial Funeral Home. The local military honors unit will provide graveside rites at Basswood Cemetery. . .
