Sofie Elizabeth Delventhal Kessenich

Sofie Elizabeth Delventhal Kessenich (Mackenzie Rose) was born December 1, 2007 at 33 weeks gestation in Wauwautosa to Subrina Gray and Joshua Kavalaskas. Sofie spent the next 349 days in Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin fighting to survive and undergoing 15+ surgeries in her short lifetime. Sofie was born with VACTErL syndrome, endured a craniotomy, several heart surgeries, epilepsy and four strokes. Sofie was discharged to Stephen and Cheryl Delventhal’s care in their treatment foster home for medically fragile children. April 2010, Sofie officially became a Delventhal when she was adopted. Sofie loved dance classes with Ms. Betty Hayes Baxter; horse therapy with Horse Powers Heartbeat, UW 5th Quarter Band, Packers, dancing with Kimmy Kienitz, Guitar Frankie and his band, and was going to be a drummer in R5. Sofie is survived by her parents Dr. Stephen J. and Cheryl Delventhal of Avoca, WI. Sofie was preceded in Death by her aunt Carolyn Elizabeth Kessenich, grandfathers Donald Kessenich and John Delventhal, grandmother Elizabeth Delventhal and “cousin” Judine Hutter, who she spoke of so often. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Corpus Christi Parish in Avoca with Fr. Kau. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home and also on Saturday at church from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.
